The Sony WH-CH720N headphones represent the latest iteration of Sony's wireless headphone line, succeeding the WH-CH710N model. These over-ear, Bluetooth headphones are equipped with Active Noise Canceling (ANC), Passthrough, virtual surround sound, and multi-device pairing capabilities. They support both Bluetooth and auxiliary (Aux) connections.

Purpose: - General purpose headphones - suitable for binaural head-tracked audio in VR/XR/MR context due to audio passthrough feature - No latency in cable connection, 30-40ms latency via Bluetooth

Pairing: - Press Bluetooth button for 5 seconds until the indicator light blinks.

WH-CH720N supports full-duplex audio (simultaneous output and microphone input). A number of scenarios are possible:

1. full-duplex using minijack cable:

  1. Connect to a Y cable (one in, two outs) to the headphones with the provided AUX cable.
  2. Connect Y cable exits to a Headphone and Microphone to USB adapter.
  3. Result: Bidirectional sound in mono.

2. full-duplex via Bluetooth:

  1. Works on iOS and MacOS.
  2. Not possible on an RPi (still testing possibilities).

3. full-duplex combininb Bluetooth and Cable (AUX):

  1. Bluetooth connection (in or out) not possible when headphones are already connected by aux cable (out or in).
