On May 23, 2024, the Zylia team sent HfM Karlsruhe a new (beta) version of their plugin, the 6DoF (Six Degrees of Freedom) HOA (Higher-Order Ambisonics) Renderer. This version introduces the option to use linear interpolation algorithms. The plugin is available for Wwise and Max MSP.

The HOA Renderer, developed by Zylia 3D Audio Solutions, is a Max MSP plugin designed to enable users to create and stream 3D sound. It facilitates the processing and rendering of Zylia 6DoF navigable audio content and interpolates the sound field between 3rd order Ambisonics spheres. With this plugin, users can playback synchronized Ambisonics files, and modify the listener’s position and orientation among multiple Ambisonics spheres, making it particularly useful for VR experiences and game engines.

The new beta version of the plugin offers two algorithm options: the original Zylia algorithm, now named „ZYLIA AES,“ and the new linear interpolation algorithm.

At HfM Karlsruhe, we utilize Zylia microphones and the Zylia studio to record concerts, everyday sounds, room responses, nature sounds, traffic sounds, and more. For playback, we employ a dodecahedron of 12 speakers.

Our playback setup involves a customized Zylia Max MSP Patch, allowing us to load up to 10 different Ambisonics tracks, choose audio output, adjust gain, and other parameters. Central to the patch is the Zylia 6DoF HOA Renderer, which displays and allows modification of the positions of Ambisonics spheres and the listener. By double-clicking the Zylia 6DoF HOA Renderer, users can access and modify various parameters located on the right side:

When the Linear interpolation agorithm is chosen, the Algorithm parameters cannot be changed anymore.
